Themes Post for Frankenstein

Shane and Dan's blog. Dan and I picked the theme of Lies and Deciet. Victor keeping such a big secret causes a lot of issues. He does not share the secret about the monster and it brings destruction to the ones he loves, and leaves him with nothing. Many people Victor cares about die because of the monster. Elizabeth, his brother and many others die. Justine dies too because she is believed to have killed Victors brother. Victor ends up believing that everything is his fault and knows he has nothing left because he made the monster. Victor distances himself and goes through a significant change and this secrecy brings him down in the long haul. In the end Victor has no dad, no wife and no brother. Victor decides to pursue the monster and meets Walton. Walton promises to pursue the monster for Victor. This goes along with the theme of lies and deceit, because if Victor never created the monster it would not have killed people and others wouldn't have been blamed.

Tinturn Relations

In Tinturn Abbey William Wordsworth uses words that describe his surroundings. He talks about how he becomes a living soul within the life of things. He describes the woods and cottages and how he felt tranquil and he loves to remember these things.  Says that his memory of the woods may be vain because of the influence it had on him. He describes his memories and how they affected him and how future memories may affect him. This poem relates to Mont Blanc because they use imagery to describe nature. In Mont Blanc it's all about describing nature and how he feels when he is in nature. Tinturn Abbey talks about nature and he is recalling it. Frost at midnight uses imagery as well but isn't all about nature. Frost at midnight is more about how he recalls things as well. He describes about dreaming about a sweet birthplace. Nature has a small part in frost at midnight but it is beautifully described by "I shall wander like a breeze" " By lakes and sandy shores" for some reason this brings good pictures into my head and makes me think if summer and happiness. All of these poems inspire happiness and bring back good thoughts.

Blog number 3

In the reading we just did it relates to Romantacism in two ways that really stood out to me. First emotion was the biggest one that I can think of. Mary Shelley included many details about how the monster felt. The monster tells his story and we learn the process in how he has learned about fire and many other things. The monster talks to us about how people don't like him because he is ugly when he goes into the hut. This shows emotion the monster has feelings and you feel sadness for him. We also connect to emotion through Victor because he is very depressed and then he experiences bliss from the mountain and glaciers he sees. While he was enjoying the views of Montanvert he sees the monster and experiences anger as well so this is why I think emotion is the biggest Romantacism piece that pops up. The differences between the Shelley's is basically that she didn't go into as much detail as he did and describe it as well.

Frankenstein Blog

So Frankenstein can relate to Romanticism because there is a lot of emotion. The one part I would like to touch upon is how Victors parents adopt a young girl for him to wife. Elizabeth catches scarlet fever when she recovers his mom catches it and then she dies. While on her death bed she says she wants Victor and Elizabeth to get married. There is a lot of emotion because there could be some love throughout if they are planning on getting married. There is caring and love because when she gets scarlet fever Victors mom cares for her and nurses her back to health. The one other emotion I'm seeing is kind of guilt. Victor kind of feels guilted by his mom when she says she want him to get married. Victor feels guilted because he isn't there and he doesn't want to let his mom down. Like who wants to let there mom down especially when she's dead now. After Victor has been up to his affairs and at school he is young and becomes pretty nerdy. Victor meets his new friend and when he becomes sick his friend nurses him and then gives him letters from Elizabeth. I think this is more emotion because his friend cared enough to risk himself and help him and get him to become better. A little more emotion that is seen is that Elizabeth is writing to him which means she cares. On the last though he doesn't really show a lot of emotion because he doesn't write to anyone not even her.

Difference between innocence and experience.

Usually when talking about innocence and experience the more experience you have the less innocence. In the poem the experience poems are a lot darker. The people in the experience poem are more poor from the Holy Thursday. In Holy Thursday many dark things are mentioned about experience. People are crying, begging by singing songs for money and people are just really miserable. The poem of innocence people are going to church and seem like happy campers and the poem overall just sounds a lot more friendly. The second poem talks about a boy who is going to go to his job as a chimney sweep which was one of the few jobs for kids. He had a pretty morbid dream about the other boys dead but got up and did his job anyway. Therefore his innocence is being taken that way.
